Known as the "Music City," Nashville has retained a strong relationship with the music industry while undergoing a major economic and cultural expansion. "The District" is Nashville's downtown area, with features ranging from the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, which celebrates the city's history through a number of memorials, to buzzing nightclubs and the famous Ryman Auditorium. Part of Nashville's new image has been the result of a growing college population, with students from around the country attending top-notch schools such as Vanderbilt University and Tennessee State University. Despite its modern, urban feel, Nashville is best known for its musical history, and many people still visit Nashville just to see where Elvis played and tour the city's famous recording studios.
